Tips to Follow When Arrested
ByBe it street racing or a DUI, when arrested here are a few tips that will make an unpleasant experience a little easier. These apply whether you are at fault or even falsely accused.
Show Respect:
Remember that in most cases you are the one at fault and not the law enforcement official. Follow instructions and treat them with respect. It may help you in the long run.
Stop Talking:
Do not volunteer information. Only answer questions specifically asked of you. Make answers short and to the point and immediately shut up. State the facts and stay polite.
Let a Friend or Family Member Know:
If accompanied by a family member or friend, make sure that they have instructions about how to proceed. Even though it may be embarrassing it is better to have someone you trust on the ready when released or provided the option of bail out.
Find a Bail Bondsman:
If bail out is your option and a bail bondsman is required, this is where having that family or friend at the ready plays out. On your behalf he/she can assist in the process by contacting a bondsman. Based on your respect level, officers can also be very helpful with the process and recommendations.
